Capella University has demonstrated to me exceptional quality of education thus far. I almost expect instant accreditation in all areas where it is sought. Capella deserves it. It’s the best school I’ve attended at this point.

Side Bar: S, I just wanted to say that if you’re going to post a message on a related college website, proof reading is important. For example, the clause, “. . .using the the word “hear” to indicate location, is incorrect. . .”, is quite incorrect and is a mistake that is made by grade school students - not college learners, as you so confidently pointed out. The comma which separates “location” from “is” is both unnecessary and incorrect. “Using the word “hear” to indicate location” is grammatically a gerundial clause which acts as the subject of the sentence. When a predicate immediately follows a subject, it IS NOT separated by a comma. I’m sure your mistake was made in your haste to meaningfully correct a well-meaning Capella learner. The “grade school” comment you made, however, raised some doubts about your intentions. I agree that our proof-reading skills should develop while at Capella. What about our skills of diplomacy?

While the nature of this post for me is atypical, it is part of my responsibility to achieve fairness, build cohesion and discourage carnage.

I don’t think S was being mean at all. He/She might not have kissed butt the right way, but they did try to smooth it over a bit. If you noticed, S did say “If you cared” and “Good Luck”. People who are being mean to each other rarely would care less if the other person cared or wished them luck. Maybe S is a list kind of person who gets right to the point with their discussions. I see where you think S may be a little mean, but look further into it and you will see that S just wants this discussion to look and feel like one that is taking place on a college campus, not an elementary school classroom.

I just re-enrolled in MY school and logged on to find this distasteful post by S. I have to agree with the last few posters. S, you must not have been here that long because every one of the people I have dealt with at this school is polite, friendly and family oriented. These are people who truly care about one another. Perhaps you should think about this the next time you post. Check the course rooms for the type of correspondence we do with each other. Then you will see that those types of corrections are usually done either off line or in person and gently, never in a mean-spirited manner. I wish you much luck in your pursuits and happy posting!

S, I don’t normally write on these blogs, but your response to Zainab was very offensive. As a fellow learner of Capella, we are supposed to be as one family. Encouraging one another to grow and learn as one. How dare you correct another learner as if they were in grade school.

Are you so perfect that you never make mistakes? I don’t want to assume to know you, but you shouldn’t assume to know Zainab either.

Zainab, I hope that you are not discouraged by the comments made by this person,S. Please keep growing and enjoying the learning experience here at Capella. I wish you the best.

S, I have to agree with Sue the degree of your criticism was completely uncalled for as well as inappropriate. I am sure a person in Grad school understands the definition of “hear” vs. “here” and this was something that “slipped by” as Sue stated. It is good to know that you are so clear on the definition though, my fourth graders have that one down as well!

You also represent Capella University, let’s hope you learn to be more sensitive to others throughout your education here. Zainab is providing positive feedback regarding her experiences and should be encouraged not berated. By the way you may also edit your comment now that you have had some feedback.

S, I fail to see how it is your position to correct someone on a public blog. That is left up to the individuals who run the blog, not some random person on the web. We all make mistakes and sometimes errors slip by. This happens even with me and I am brilliant.

Next time, please leave the junior moderating up to the ones who actually have a right to do it. Thank you.

By contrast, the word “here” (which is the one you wanted), refers to a defined location. You represent Capella University. I trust proof reading will be developed during your time with Capella, to avoid such simple errors. At the least, if you catch the mistake after posting, you might consider making the effort to post a correction. It will serve you well to show you care enough to catch your own mistakes. This works well in academia in general too. Good luck.

I too am very satisfied with Capella. I continue to read about what a great online school Capella is. I have had some challenging times, but Capella and its instructors have made those challenges worth my while. I got over all the hurdles! I love it here, and I am excited to be a part of such an excellent school. Capella will be a hard act to follw!

This is my first time doing online classes, but Capella has made it very easy and comfortable. I was so please of learning about the Master’s Program for Human Services, and that it had CACREP accredication was a plus!!!!!

I feel the same way Carla. The search for an accredited University program that would offer a quality education took several years. I was determined to attend an on-line school and I was shocked when I discovered Capella had CACREP accredication. My involvement with the School of Human Services has been very positive thus far.

I want to applaud Capella for seeking and receiving CACREP Accreditation, among many other types of accreditation. I am employed full-time and the mother of three. I have always dreamed of coming back to school to complete a Masters Program and hopefully a PHD. Now it is more than a possiblity it is a reality!!! Before Capella there were no online graduate schools that I felt comfortable enough with to invest my money and time for fear the education would not hold up under state or professional scrutiny.
