I am a 54 year old new learner to Capella University. I am "scarey excited" as I begin this new experience in my life. Since I work full time and travel extensively I understand the challenges with completing a degee. I have actually been enjoying the information modules I have been viewing. These modules provide a comprehensive amount of information to help me become successful as I pursue my degree at Capella. The more I read and listen the more encouraged I become. I like knowing up front what is expected as I press on. Yes I can do this!

Hi Michelle,
I am a mother of 4, 3 sons 31, 23, 21 and a daughter 15. I owned an in home childcare for twelve children when my children were young. I took early childhood classes during this time. I found a scheduled day for the children and myself very helpful. Planning personal time, activities, and routines with the children is essential. Routines aid in setting personal time to study and achieve uninterrupted study. An example is cooking balanced meals early in the day frees up the afternoon cooking you will soon experience and baths before bed for the kids aid in preparing for rest. Education is important for the kids and us. I went through a divorce also and completed a Bachelors and almost Masters in the mist. Be encouraged, there is hope.

Hi Michelle,
I am a new Capella learner and scholar. :-). I am a mother to 4 children (16 1/2, 15, 10 & 8). I am also in the process of going through a divorce. Believe me, you CAN do this. It's going to be a struggle, but life wouldn't be life withougt struggle. My advice to you would be that you make a schedule and do your best to stick to it. If you have other family members around you don't be afraid to utilize them. I have 4 children who are involved in all types of extra-curricular activities in addition to school commitments. I look at them and no that there is no turning back....forward movement....no matter how heavy my eyelids get....lol

Hope this helps,
Fatima

I'm a new mom - my baby just turned three months on February 24, 2011(Project Management). I'm looking for tips as to how to handle studies and parenting. It's not like I have older children who understand what the "Do not disturb" sign means and I currently do not live with my husband so I don't have that kind of support. I have a baby who needs me 24/7 but I am intent on getting this degree. Is there anyone out there in a similar situation who can share some advice apart from "just wait til the baby is asleep." :)

I was recently accepted into Capella's DBA Program for Business Administration in Global Operations and Supply Chain Management. I fully agree with "Tips and advice for new Capella learners", time management skills and being proactive are a few keys to success which I'll follow throughout this endeavor. There was a lot of great ideas to build upon regarding financial aid, time managment, books, etc...all great ideas for success. This was time well spent listening, refreshing some old thoughts and refocusing on skills to support the student. Kind Regards, Dana
